Like A Hurricane

Another hurricane season. The future of Imelda is carefully monitored by meterologist around the low country. The latest trends are [hinting] that this storm will slow down and not make landfall before pushing East out to sea.

We experienced our first hurricane season last year. We no sooner moved to South Carolina - waiting for our new furniture and items on a commercial moving truck to arrive when Hurricane Debby came to visit.  She was an unwelcomed guest to say the least. New roof shingles lifted and cracked. A backyard turned into a small retention pond. Flooded streets and plenty of palm tree debris collecting along the low country roads. I probably shouldn't complain, as downtown Charleston is vulnerable to storms. Flooding happens even without hurricanes.

Friday morning the news was moving rather quickly - we may not have school Monday!  Maybe even Tuesday! I certainly don't panic when natural events occur - but I am smart enough to be prepared. The hubs pulled our hurricane kit from the garage, which holds flashlights, extra batteries and a few tools. I have an emergency first aid kit on the top of our linen closet ready to be thrown in the car if needed. Today I went for bottled water [which everyone in the greater Charleston area met me at Publix] and snacks. Priorities. Penn State plays this evening so I decided to throw a small charcuterie board together with hot honey hummus and fresh French bread straight from France the deli. The hubs enjoys a good Havarti as I appreciate an aged Gouda. We compromised on a NY Sharp. That's love.

Once the deli items were purchased I ran to the cheap wine aisle for an aged 2023 Sauvignon Blanc. Okay, so maybe it's not THAT aged but it fit my budget and it's from New Zealand with an artsy starfish design on the lable.

Note^ the lable.

This monsterous hoagie is from Nonna's downtown Summerville. I surprised the hubs with his favorite Italian style hoagie layered with Italian meats and cheeses. Needless to say he's going to be one Happy Valley camper - especially if PSU wins!

And for the grand finale - Little Gina's chocolate Pizzelle! My Nonna made the best Pizzelle. A childhood memory and no one could come close to hers. But these are pretty tastey!

Now as for the disturbance happening in the North Atlantic - South Carolina's Gov. declared the state of emergency. Folks are grabbing more sandbags, filling their gas tanks and making plans if an evacutation should be made by our local officials. For now we sit and wait. Like the hurricane and it's chaotic disruption it brings we hope and pray it moves out as quickly as it developed.

If you are in the path of this predicted hurricane - take care and listen to those who know best.

Thanks for reading.

Stay tuned for more......

Enjoy a cup of coffee and take an adventure!
